Welcome To Clare Cottage

'.esc_attr__('image', 'camelia').'

Clare Cottage is situated in the centre of the charming Abbey town, Sherborne. One of the most picturesque towns in Dorset it is only a few minutes’ walk from the shops, the markets (when they are in town) and the Abbey itself. This 1650’s cottage has recently been renovated to a high standard retaining many of the old features giving it a warm and friendly atmosphere by owner Susie Muir-Mackenzie. The secluded garden is an ideal place for guests to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or a glass of wine in the summer months.
Much thought has gone into the renovations to create a stunning luxurious feel but still retaining the relaxed atmosphere cherished by all busy people. My philosophy is to give my guests as relaxing a time as they would wish.
The rooms are fitted out with fluffy towels and bath robes and I offer toiletries for your convenience keeping in mind climate change.

Testimonials

What our customers say

We stayed in the Blue room & it was just so perfect with a Claw Bath. A most comfortable big bed. The room was huge. Walking distance to everywhere in Sherborne. Susie is a great hostess. We were made to feel so welcome. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Shealagh

The bedroom was beautiful with a deep roll-top bath in the room. The bed was very comfortable and the full English breakfast the next morning was delicious! Suzi, the hostess could not have been more accommodating.

Sharon

My partner and I stayed in Clare Cottage for one night. The location is great, only a 5 minute walk to the abbey. Susie, the host, made us a beautiful cooked vegan breakfast along with fruit and granola to start and dairy free milk and yogurt. The room was stunning, couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you

Ellie

A very warm welcome from the host Susie, was the start of an excellent two days in Sherborne. The rooms are beautifully furnished and very clean, and the room I was lucky to be in so large it even had space for a fantastic bath in the corner. Nothing was too much trouble for Susie and the English breakfast was scrumptious. I would highly recommend Clare Cottage and will stay here again next time I’m in Sherborne.

Peter

We had a really wonderful time staying with Susie! She could not have been kinder or more welcoming.
Breakfast was delicious. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and super comfortable. It is centrally located. It may also win a prize for the cleanest house in the county!!!

Emily

Not only was the weather kind to us, Susie our host was even kinder, a wonderful welcoming atmosphere, and the room, and cottage as a whole, was stunning – a true English Cottage experience in the heart of Dorset. Two minute walk from the town center as well, and a superb ‘hidden secret’ pub called the Digby Tap, which Susie had recommended. Would definitely return!

Food & Drink

There are some wonderful coffee shops and restaurants. One of my favourites is Oliver’s at the top of Cheap Street. The Three Wishes, The Pear Tree, Bean Shot and Kafe Fontana are all wonderful places to spend time drinking coffee and having a light lunch.

Shops

The town has some very exclusive Antique shops and an emporium and there are regular antique markets and Charterhouse, the auctioneer, has some very fine pieces of art and furniture for sale.

Things To Do

There are many National Trust and Heritage properties in Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire to visit and Sherborne is perfectly placed to visit many of them as the town is so central in the county. Dorset is full of gardens attached to The National Garden Scheme for the avid gardener.
